July 2023 Update

After a season of research, reflection, and prayer, First Baptist Church is in the process of closing our church location and migrating to one or more churches together. The church is the people of God, not a building, and our focus is on how each of us can worship, grow, and serve God most faithfully. There is tremendous love for each other within First Baptist Stoneham, which is only a faint reflection of the love that God has shown us by sending Jesus to save us, and carry us through these challenging times.

There were a number of factors that are leading us to this period of discernment: (1) Over the past several years, a number of dearly loved brothers and sisters have died and gone to be with the Lord. (2) The building, constructed over a hundred years ago, has a number of expensive repair projects that will be required in the near future. (3) Due to the societal shifts that we’ve experienced through Covid half our worship attendees are virtual over Zoom, which makes the physical church building less relevant to our mission at increased costs.

We are still discerning what the future holds for our congregation, but we are united by our trust in the power and love of our Lord Jesus. God will continue to guide each of us to a place where we can grow in our faith and serve to be a blessing to others. As we better understand what other changes will be coming, we will post here to keep our community updated.

December 2023 Update

As we shared earlier this summer, the Christian community at First Baptist Church of Stoneham has
been working through the process of helping each other relocate to other church homes over these past
six months.  Our hearts were heavy because of what lay ahead - losing the regular presence of some
fellow believers that have been a part of our lives for decades, and the challenge of finding a new church
home so we can continue to grow in the Lord.  But WOW were we in for some holy surprises!  Our
journey throughout the summer is yet another testimony to God’s goodness and grace – He led us in
mighty ways and brought us to an understanding of the greater things that He has in store for the
Stoneham area.

It is our privilege and delight to let everyone know that the First Baptist Church building at 457 Main
Street will be transforming into a vibrant new campus of Aletheia church.  Aletheia’s main location is in
Cambridge, providing a powerful witness to Jesus Chris for the Boston/Cambridge area, especially to
college students.  We have been blessed in so many ways getting to know and love the leadership team
at Aletheia, and are very excited by what Aletheia Church in Stoneham will bring to the area.

We expect this transition to be completed by the end of calendar 2023, and Aletheia’s intention is to
start operating the Stoneham campus by Easter of 2024.  There won’t be any other updates provided on
this website, so if you are interested in what God will be doing in Stoneham through Aletheia, we
recommend that you check their website at this link:  North Shore | Aletheia Church.  There is a short
video clip on that web page that is worth watching.  For anyone in the Stoneham area that wants to
explore what it means to know and trust in Jesus – to have a relationship with the God that made us and
loves us - with all our heart we encourage you to get connected with Pastor Donny and his team who
will be leading this exciting new congregation. The Lord bless you and keep you!

Welcome to FBC Stoneham

The people at First Baptist Church seek to be transformed by the power and love of Jesus Christ. We are imperfect people who try to be real with each other as we worship God, care for each other, and reach out to our community. We hold on to the promises of God, that He is able to redeem us from sin and transform us to be more like Jesus day by day.

If you are looking for a place to be yourself and connect to other people who are at different stages in their relationship with Jesus, then FBC Stoneham may be the place where God is calling you.

Connect

At every Sunday worship service we turn our attention to a section of the Bible, seeking to learn from the Pastor its practical application to our lives. We trust that the Holy Spirit gives us “ears to hear” what God is saying to our hearts through these sermons as we grow in relationship with Him.

Sermons

There are regular opportunities for people to be together at First Baptist outside of Sunday mornings. This includes weekly activities like youth group and the weekly prayer service, as well as special events like Supper on the Beach. Check out our events page to see what opportunities are coming up.
