Sermon Title: Ananias & Saphira – A New Community
Worship service date: May 26, 2019
Interim Pastor Thomas Hiltsley
Primary Bible verses:
1st Corinthians 11
Acts 5:1-11
Key sermon points:
“Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For all who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment against themselves.” 1st Corinthians 11:28-29
Saphira and her husband Ananias did not intentionally plan for their story to end as it did!
What can the Holy Spirit teach us from Ananias and Saphira?
The context insists we remember that we are talking about LOVE:
- Love within the Church
- God’s Love for the Church
- Love so great that Jesus died for the Church (Ephesians 4:15
The Bible clearly teaches that there is no life for anyone apart from Jesus Christ.
If we really give ourselves to Christ we identify ourselves:
- With His death
- With His Life
- With His Body the Church
Disregard for Christ and/or His Church is separation from our source of life – Death!
We profane the Lord’s Body by:
- Physical absence or removal
- Withholding time, talent or money
- Not bearing one another’s burdens or sharing joys
- Dishonesty with each other
